Toyota FT-86 Engine Details

Here is what we know so far about the FT-86 engine:

Subaru 2.0 liter D-4S Boxer engine
Estimated to produce 160 hp, possibly being upgraded to 200 hp
Estimates put the torque at 155 to 160 lb-ft

Subaru also offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer enginer with 250HP that powers the Impreza S-GT.

Feel free to update this thread with any more rumors or new information about the engine - will update the post as soon as possible

Do you think Toyota will offer a turbocharged version?

I do not think that they will offer a turbo version just due to costs. I would be very happy with 160 hp but the more the better. Maximum tuned this engine will produce 170 hp.

The D-4S is the Toyota direct (fuel into the cylinder) injection system which should be engineered on to the Subaru (H4?) engine. There is at least one Lexus model (IS250?) with this direct injection and it makes a useful amount more power and torque than the stock non D-*S engines.

This is only just rumoured information. But i want to get a turbo an see somewhere in about 250hp +!!!

uk will offer 140bhp and 180bhp versions of the boxer engine i believe

no mention of a turbo version yet (maybe a while later or just left for Subaru to offer a factory turbo model?) .. will have to keep an eye on aftermarket mods i guess

Turbo will probably be the easiest way to go for upgrades on it if it has the boxster engine in it. I bet you could just swap out some Subaru parts to make it a WRX.

highly dependent on whether or not the ecm is Subaru - if not hmmm.....might be quite difficult unless you go standalone.

I dont really care for a turbo unless its a small to mid size turbo because bigger ones will drain your engine life and suck up all your gas now unless its a twin turbo which i doubt they will release any time soon

as long as it has 170 hp i dont mind and 160+ torque

They haven't said anything about a turbo version, but I don't have a doubt in my mind they'll do it. 'Paul' mentioned cost as an issue for them not bringing it out, but look at what the turbo did for the Evo and WRX. Those cars are not import legends because they were N/A. Plus Subaru's turbo has been in use for years, proving its reliability, and for that reason they can offer it to us affordably. I'd also be glad to shell out an additional 5k for a proper turbo sports version. I'm not against spending money as long as it's in the right areas.
I'm waiting to get my 86 until they offer a turbo version, and if they don't they lost my sale.
